Exporado Showcase Case 01 · Søl Studio
Page: Practice

Søl was founded in 2014 by two architects who had each spent a decade in the larger Copenhagen practices and wanted to build something smaller, slower, and more accountable.

We employ four people. We design between two and four buildings a year. We do not work with developers, we do not enter competitions, and we do not take commissions where the brief begins with the words "as quickly as possible."

Every project is led by one of the two founders from first sketch to the final delivery of furniture. Nothing about that is unusual. It is the bare minimum.

Four people, two dogs.

How a building happens here.

01 / Listening

A long first conversation.

We spend the first six weeks listening. Not designing. The brief is rarely what the client thinks it is at the start, and we are not in a hurry to discover what it actually is.

02 / Sketching

By hand, on paper.

Our first proposal is always a single hand-drawn elevation, a section, and a written paragraph about why. If those three things are not enough to begin a conversation, we should not be building a house yet.

03 / Building

On site, often.

One of the partners is on site every Friday for the duration of construction. Decisions made by phone tend to look like decisions made by phone. Decisions made in person tend to look like the building.

04 / Returning

Two years later, again.

We visit every completed building two years after handover, photograph it, write a short essay about what time has done to it, and leave a copy with the client. This is how we learn.

A case by Exporado

Practice pages deserve better than stock founder bios.

Each person on a Søl-style page gets a portrait, a real history, and a sentence that means something. Built end-to-end by Exporado.
